Anatomy of an Alibi

by Ashley Elston

Read in

Ashley’s pacing of the book was enjoyable to me. Nearly each chapter had something that kept the book in my hands longer than I had intended each time I chose to read. The payoff at the end was good, but I found myself never feeling thrilled at any point. Everything to me felt mid.

I actually think the “mid” feeling had to do with too many characters being involved in this story. Where each chapter had a different narrator, I found myself having to reorient each time I read, reminding myself who the narrator at that point in time was and how all of the characters fit together. Constantly having to think each day, “oh that’s right, Camille did this…” or “Deacon did that…” brought down the excitement of the twists each time there was one.

As an enjoyer of thrillers, I would definitely say this was a good book, I just feel that in the end, it may end up being slightly forgettable.
